While building a shed you will be careful that outdoor storage shed has adequate capability to shelter stuff that you want to store from all kinds of weather disturbance. It should be sturdy enough to withstand rough climates and also of right size to be able to house everything that you want to keep. You should construct a durable shed and its durability depends upon material you are using for your shed. There are various types of sheds that can compete with your outside environment like:

  • Metal sheds
  • Plastic sheds
  • Wooden sheds
  • Vinyl-sided sheds
  • Asbestos sheds

There are various shed plans available on internet, choose one of them that best suits your needs and purpose. You can do some changes in this plan by using your own expertise according to your requirements. Once you have a plan, you can get on with building outdoor storage shed. Before constructing an outdoor storage shed, consider following things like:

  • You will need to find out rules and regulations of a local government complying with shed construction. You should follow laws and local building codes dealing with shed. Typically if your shed is not too large then you cannot apply for building permit.
  • In next step you should decide about flooring of shed. You can either construct a wood floor or concrete one; it depends only on your requirements. Foundation is most important factor for shed building so it should be very strong. Strong foundation makes it durable and it will last for a very long time. Wood is easier to work and also less costly. If you are making your own shed then it is more comfortable to work with wood.
  • If you are building an outdoor shed in a place where temperature dips below freezing point then you should protect your shed from frost too. The foundation should be built to allow structural stress due to frost in soil below.
  • Concrete and wood both are suitably fashioned to protect outdoor shed from frost problems. Typically you don’t need to dig much for a simple outdoor shed.
  • If you want to make wood floor, you should also think about protecting it from wood rot and attacks of insects. Treated-lumbar plywood is good for floor because it is not affected by water droplets or by insects.
  • You will do framing lumber for shed walls but bottom plate should be made from treated lumber. This will provide security shield against wood rot. The corners of shed should also make from plywood. This makes shed sturdy enough to stand rigid to endure wind and roof load.
  • Prefabricated roof trusses are best for roof but you can also make roof from simple roof rafters. This is a more cost effective measure.
  • You should envelop outside of shed including walls and roof with overlapping asphalt felt paper. Later you can use siding; this will keep wood in shape.
  • In last step you should think to put doors. You can make a regular door or even make an overhead garage door. This must be large enough to take stuff you want to keep in shed in and out.
